50 MILE BIKE RIDE (OCT-8 2017): TRAINING PLAN UPDATE 4

Oct-1 to Oct-6 (this week)
  • 20 to 30 miles (long ride Sunday, Oct-1)
  • 10 mile
  • 10 mile

Weight Training

  • I weight train each week. Here is the plan for this week.
    • Deadlift, 305 pounds, 1 sets of 5 reps
      • Add 10 pounds each week
    • Standing overhead dumbbell press, 40 pounds, 1 set to failure

Admission of guilt

  • I’ve lost momentum on my bike training. While I’ve been out 3x per week, my long Sunday rides were not as planned. I’ve actually been riding 20 to 30 miles. I planned these rides to be 30 to 45 miles.
  • My excuse. I have lots of them. I won’t offer them here. You know the drill, Reasons Are Bullshit!
  • Am I worried? A bit. My sense is that I can power through. The course is mostly flat and offers many chances for breaks. I’ll stop as many times as needed.
  • If it’s in my power, I’ll finish. I’m hell bent on completing the 50 miles. Why? I’m considering a 1/2 Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13 mile run) next year. A 50 mile bike ride is a milestone on my way to the 1/2 Ironman.

Use of “!”

  • My apologies. I’ve been using “!” excessively lately. I blame Twitter!
